That doesn't mean that the team has to be the original team, every time. There has to be passion in the team behind the projects. Thinking about Age of Empires, we're on the 10th anniversary edition of Killer Instinct, which is another nice example to think about. "You did a good job at laying out some of the examples from the past. Phil also wants to let fans and customers know he doesn't bring up games just to tease to no end. That will effect which titles they decide to revive. He wants to discuss with Blizzard leadership titles they are passionate about. Phil is excited about back catalogs of Bethesda, and Activision Blizzard. Windows Central specifically asked if there are any plans to revive and port games like WoW, Starcraft, and Heroes of the Storm to Xbox. Phil said he cannot directly compare Xbox's strategy in reviving niche games like Age of Empires and Killer Instinct, versus Activision-Blizzard's approach, as he wasn't involved in Activision's decision-making. Windows Central discussed the future of Activision-Blizzard games including dormant franchises like Guitar Hero, StarCraft, or Skylanders. Microsoft Gaming CEO Phil Spencer expressed a lot of excitement for the possibilities of reviving Blizzard franchises, according to an interview with Windows Central. So, what do you think of the rumor? And which part of the Warcraft mythos should be covered in this potential re-launch of the brand on the big screen? NOT part of the rumor, just a fan interpretation. The first movie's director, Duncan Jones, previously both shared his own plans for a potential trilogy, and commented on the fact that a sequel wouldn't be happening as far as he knows, which is true even if the above rumor turns out to be true. We've also recently seen some community wishes for a potential Lich King movie, with Henry Cavil as Arthas ( with some posters whipped up as well), which definitely got everyone's vote for the next attempt at starting the Warcraft cinematic universe, and it seems pretty likely that regardless of which iconic storyline they choose to adapt, Metzen should be involved to some degree. The next rumor had a little more weight to it, coming from a relatively reliable "scooper", Daniel Ritchman via Movie Web, and claimed that the second movie is actually already in development. These were somewhat vague and just mentioned that the production company for the first movie, Legendary Entertainment, were "already discussing" the next Warcraft movie behind the scenes and that it would wipe the slate clean and start the franchise over. There have been some rumors going around recently about a potential second Warcraft movie that may be in development.
